Springtime in Yellowstone National Park is a magical time of year, with snow melting away, waterfalls gushing and wildflowers starting to bloom. As the park emerges from winter, it’s the perfect time to explore the stunning natural beauty on foot. With so many trails to choose from, it can be hard to know where to start. In this blog, we’ll highlight three unique trails that are popular among guests of Terra Nova Cabins, each offering a different perspective on the park’s natural wonders.
- Fairy Falls Trail Fairy Falls Trail is a moderate 5.4-mile round-trip hike that takes you to one of the tallest waterfalls in Yellowstone. The hike starts at the Midway Geyser Basin and takes you through a beautiful lodgepole pine forest before arriving at the falls. The waterfall is a majestic 197-foot drop and is a must-see during the spring thaw when it is at its fullest. The trail is relatively flat and provides an easy hike for families or beginners.
- Mount Washburn Trail Mount Washburn Trail is a moderate to difficult 6.4-mile round-trip hike that offers panoramic views of Yellowstone. The trailhead is located at Dunraven Pass and takes hikers to the top of Mount Washburn, which is the park’s tallest mountain accessible by trail. At the summit, hikers will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the park’s landscape, including the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Hayden Valley, and the Absaroka Mountains. This trail is not recommended for those with a fear of heights, as there are steep drop-offs along the trail.
- Lone Star Geyser Trail Lone Star Geyser Trail is an easy 4.8-mile round-trip hike that takes you to an isolated geyser in the park. The trailhead is located near the Old Faithful area, and the hike follows along the Firehole River. The geyser eruption occurs approximately every three hours, and the viewing area is large enough to accommodate crowds. The trail is relatively flat, making it accessible for hikers of all skill levels.
As you can see, Yellowstone National Park offers a diverse range of trails that are perfect for springtime hiking. Whether you’re looking for waterfalls, panoramic views, or geysers, there is a trail for everyone. As always, we encourage hikers to be prepared by bringing appropriate gear, snacks, and plenty of water. We hope this blog has inspired you to explore the beauty of Yellowstone National Park this spring.
